values

YP-in has five key values which underpin all our work

our values

young people-led

We listen to all young people involved in the network and we enable representative groups to shape the way the project develops. We are not afraid to show leadership where required, but we always hold young people's views as most important.

rights based

We work within the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and other human rights instruments. We believe that Disabled Young People do not enjoy all the the basic rights which this document sets out. Our project staff, alongside Disabled Young People, will challenge decision-makers to effect positive change at local and national level.

equality driven

This project is firmly rooted in the Social Model of Disability. This derives from the Disabled People's Movement, founded in 1981. This movement focuses on challenging the discrimination and oppression Disabled People face in the form of barriers which prevent full inclusion in society.

inclusive

We aim to remove disabling barriers in youth and leisure services so that Disabled and non-Disabled Young People can participate together. This project works specifically for the rights of Disabled Young People to be fully included, so in this sense non-Disabled young people are not included in the project.

straightforward

Our message is very simple: Disabled Young People have the right to be fully included in youth and leisure provision. We will also be open and straightforward in our interaction with young people, ensuring that we communicate clearly, accurately and directly.
