choose inclusion
Inclusion is a choice for us all to make. At the very least it is about adjusting our own thoughts, attitudes and actions.
If Disabled People remain cut off from other people, hidden away in 'specialist' schools, centres, clubs, transport, jobs, this understanding will never improve and boundaries will never be challenged.
The Young People's Inclusion Network exists to find out what makes inclusion work and tackle the barriers that get in the way.
There is a cost to inclusion. For businesses, this might mean the short-term cost of making services accessible - in most cases an investment that will bring greater returns. For individuals, this will involve the cost or discomfort of breaking patterns of behaviour - making the effort to communicate with Disabled People, being prepared to understand impairments rather than ignore them. Also an investment, you might say.
Inclusion is rarely without cost. But it is certainly a price worth paying.
